Compton : Firm Leases Old Dump Site, Agrees to Costly Cleanup
A 17.9-acre parcel known as the Alondra dump site has been leased to Coastal Sales and Services Inc. of Compton for $214,800 a year. The action was taken Tuesday night by the Compton City Council.
Located on the city’s westernmost border on Alondra Boulevard between Haskins and McKinley avenues, the land was an old dump site. Whoever the city sold or leased it to had to agree to clean up the old dump at a cost of $6 million to $10 million.
Coastal is leasing the land for 10 years with an option to buy it for a minimum of $3 million. During the lease period, the firm will conduct the cleanup and store vehicles on it. Eventually, the firm plans to build either single-family homes or commercial buildings on the site.
