A 21-year-old mother is scheduled to be arraigned today, two days after her arrest for investigation of abandoning her 3-month-old daughter in Norwalk.
Sherry Lynn Valentino was arrested Wednesday evening after authorities received calls from people who recognized the abandoned infant from television news broadcasts, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Joaquin Herran.
Valentino is scheduled to be arraigned in Downey Municipal Court. She was being held in lieu of $20,000 bail, said Deputy Mary Landreth.
Deputies visited the woman’s home after receiving dozens of phone calls from family friends who informed them that Valentino was the mother and that she could be found in that neighborhood.
The infant, who appeared to be in good health, was left on the doorstep of a Norwalk resident early Wednesday with a diaper bag full of supplies.
