Stanton : 3 Newcomers Win City Council Seats
When the new City Council is seated later this month, the majority will consist of first-time council members.
Newcomers Don Martinez, Harry M. Dotson and Joe V. Harris edged out challenger Rand W. Hogan and incumbent Mayor Edward L. Allen.
Harris called it “a tough campaign.â€
“I done this campaign the old-fashioned way--I earned this,†Harris said. “I lost about 20 pounds walking around.â€
Allen said he lost the race in part because he decided to spend less than $1,000 on his campaign. But Allen also blamed Councilman Sal Sapien, who was not up for reelection, for mailings that attacked Allen and other council members.
