THOUSAND OAKS : Teachers Protest Stalled Negotiations
Armed with protest signs and buttons, about 50 Conejo Valley teachers objected Thursday night to slowed contract negotiations with the district.
The contract for the Unified Assn. of Conejo Teachers expired June 30.
The union is seeking a 10% raise for the 1990-91 school year, while the Conejo Valley Unified School District officials have offered 4% this year and 3.2% for each of the following two years.
There are 712 teachers represented by the union. The next negotiating session is scheduled Dec. 11.
The protest came before the biweekly meeting of the Conejo Valley Unified school board.
Later at the meeting, district officials presented their proposal for a new contract affecting 600 classified employees, including secretaries, custodians and maintenance and food workers. The pact calls for raises to be based on the amount of money the district receives from the state.
