SHORT TAKES : Mich. Governor-Elect to Marry
LANSING, Mich. — Two days after narrowly defeating Democratic Gov. James J. Blanchard, Gov.-elect John Engler told the Legislature on Thursday that he plans to get married.
Engler, 42, introduced his fiancee, Houston lawyer Michelle De Munbrun, to his colleagues.
“For Michelle and me it’s just a wonderful time,†the Republican Senate majority leader said.
The small, private wedding, scheduled Dec. 8 in San Antonio, will be the second for both. Neither has children.
De Munbrun, 33, said she was raised as a Democrat and admitted voting for Democrat Ann Richards, who won the governor’s race in Texas. But she said she voted for Republicans in other races.
