Bell : City Hall to Close Fridays for New 4-Day Workweek
Beginning next week, Bell City Hall will be closed on Fridays as city employees start a new work schedule of four 10-hour days.
The City Council this week voted unanimously to approve the new work schedule in compliance with Air Quality Management District guidelines that ask employers with more than 100 employees to provide programs that would reduce the number of vehicle trips to and from work.
City staffers also had asked that the work schedule be changed to give them more time with their families, city officials said.
The new schedule will be in effect until June 28, 1991, at which time city leaders will evaluate it and decide whether to keep it or revert to the traditional five-day, eight-hour schedule.
The change will not affect the city’s Dial-a-Ride program, which will continue to operate from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Huntington Park is the only other Southeast area city that operates on a four-day week.
