Hospital Board Members Named
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has canceled Tuesday’s election for the South Bay Hospital District Board and appointed Ken Johnson and Patricia Allen Dreizler to seats on the board.
Johnson, a current member of the board who was running for reelection, and Dreizler, who was seeking election, were appointed after the third candidate for the two seats withdrew from the race in August. Under those circumstances, supervisors can cancel an election and fill seats by appointment.
The district provides money for public health programs in Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach.
Dick Fruin, an attorney who served on the board from 1980 through 1984, declined Tuesday to say why he changed his mind about the campaign.
Johnson, who is community services director of the county Beaches and Harbors Department, and Dreizler, who retired last year as Redondo Beach community resources director, will be sworn in Dec. 6.
