PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP : Sea Kings Win Title in Sea View
Corona del Mar High School clinched its third consecutive Sea View League girls’ volleyball title Tuesday night by sweeping University, 15-4, 15-10, 15-4, at Corona del Mar.
The Sea Kings (19-1, 9-0) won their 17th consecutive match and are virtually assured of being the top-seeded team for the Southern Section 5-A tournament. Tournament pairings will be announced Monday, with first-round games starting Nov. 8.
“Even if we had lost tonight and Thursday, I still think we would be the top-seeded team,†said Dale Flickinger, Corona del Mar’s interim coach.
Middle blocker Lara Carlsen had seven kills and outside hitter Tracy Schriber added five to lead a balanced Corona del Mar attack.
Outside hitter Lynn Randall added five kills and three aces for the Sea Kings, who finish the regular season Thursday night against league rival Newport Harbor.
Randall served her three aces in the first game as Corona del Mar broke a 3-3 tie with a 12-1 run.
Flickinger substituted freely throughout the third game as Corona del Mar built an 8-2 lead. University got no closer than five points.
Lemia Astarabadi had six kills and Holiday Molway had five to lead University (8-7, 2-7).
