No Artistic Merit
In response to the story by Cheryl Hanselman on the art show by Carole Caroompas at UCI (Calendar, Oct. 3):
I find Caroompas’ show without any artistic merit whatsoever. She takes liberties with the famed and great writers Jakob Ludwig Karl Grimm and Wilhelm Karl Grimm by injecting her personal view into their work of fairy tales and mythology to denote a male dominance as she sees it. What balderdash!
The Brothers Grimm had no hidden messages in their stories, such as a male dominance agenda. The Brothers Grimm were both scholars and professors at Berlin University in the 1800s, and their works in German mythology and folklore are classics in literature, not propaganda pieces.
Hansel and Gretel should shove (Caroompas’) art in the oven along with the witch in their fairy tale.
