Man to Stand Trial in Superior Court
VISTA — Municipal Judge Donald Rudloff on Wednesday ordered a Bellflower man to stand trial in Superior Court for allegedly driving into a tent at San Onofre State Beach and killing two campers, one from Laguna Niguel.
Douglas John Freels, 24, will be arraigned Nov. 5 on felony charges of drunk driving, hit and run, and two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter stemming from the Sept. 9 incident.
The warehouseman had pleaded not guilty in Municipal Court to allegations of driving over a tent occupied by Graham Grubb, 18, of Laguna Niguel, and Amanda Ciskowski, 19, of San Diego.
Police reported that Freels dragged the couple 35 feet before stopping and fleeing on foot. He was arrested at his home five hours later.
