REPORT CARD / T.J. SIMERS : Not Much of a GPA, Is It?
F QUARTERBACKS
Chargers fall down dead because Billy The Kid continues to fire blanks. Waiting for his development is like waiting for artificial turf to grow.
A RUNNING BACKS
Tag-team bulldozers of Marion Butts and Rod Bernstine produce average gain of five yards. Big deal. Now if one of them could also throw the ball . . .
D RECEIVERS
Lack of quality receivers continues to leave Anthony Miller lost in a crowd of coverage. How ‘bout putting Bernstine to work a la Kellen Winslow?
C OFFENSIVE LINE
With aid of tight ends, the line makes monsters of Butts & Bernstine. But Vincent Price could get to the quarterback the way these pushovers pass block.
D DEFENSIVE LINE
Have these big old bears gone into hibernation? Yoo-hoo, somebody wake up Lee Williams. Fellas, that was James FatsPatrick blocking for the Raiders.
D LINEBACKERS
Charger cheerleaders have asked that if Junior Seau is going to spend his day jumpin’ and dancin’, to please do so on the sideline where he really belongs.
C- DEFENSIVE BACKS
If Willie Gault joins the U.S. bobsled team, Sam Seale will gladly push him downhill. It’s that or Seale jumps off a cliff before he plays Gault again.
D SPECIAL TEAMS
There’s no truth to the rumor that John Kidd was trying to knock Tolliver from the game when he shanked a punt eight yards and into the Charger bench.
D COACHING
Dan Henning: “Last year at this point we were at the same thing (2-5) and we lost another one after this.†Good news, at least, for Tampa Bay.
