THE SIDELINES : Gunguluza Nears Shot at Crown

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — South African featherweight boxing champion Jackie Gunguluza won a unanimous decision over Puerto Rico’s Nelson Rodriguez in 10 rounds Monday, improving his chances for a shot at the WBA crown.
Gunguluza appeared in control throughout the bout, keeping Rodriguez at bay with stinging left jabs and solid right hands to the head.
Gunguluza, ranked No. 4 by the World Boxing Assn., won for the 22nd time in 24 professional fights. Rodriguez, ranked 12th, lost for the fifth time in 30 bouts.
