Eric Dickerson finally passed a physical examination with the Indianapolis Colts and was cleared to begin practice with the team he once vowed would never again list him on its roster.

The Colts had Monday off, and Dickerson is expected to rejoin his teammates for today’s practice, team spokesman Craig Kelley said.

Dickerson, on the non-football injured reserve list the past six weeks, signed a four-year contract extension for a reported $10.75 million Saturday.

He reported to training camp 11 days late, then failed a physical because of an off-season hamstring injury. After rehabilitating his leg in Houston, he refused five times to take another physical, and on Aug. 29, the Colts suspended him for conduct detrimental to the team.

The New Orleans Saints do not expect to make a deal for holdout quarterback Bobby Hebert before the NFL’s trading deadline today, a team official said.

Hebert announced earlier this year that he would never again play for the Saints and has insisted that the team trade him.
