LOCAL : 1,400 Pounds of Cocaine Seized
A cocaine ring that shipped the drug to points across the nation has been dismantled, with authorities today announcing the seizure of 1,400 pounds of the drug and the arrests of seven people.
The bust was made after California Highway Patrol officers discovered the cocaine earlier this month, packaged and stuffed into secret compartments in two big rigs, Los Angeles Police Cmdr. William Booth said.
The seized drug has an estimated street sale value of $20 million, he said.
The seizure sparked the investigation that resulted in the arrests of the seven people earlier this month. Four of the arrests were made locally while the other suspects were captured in New Jersey on Oct. 13, Booth said.
