A speedboat driver was killed Sunday when his boat flipped and sank during a race on Castaic Lake, authorities said.
The 50-year-old Montclair man was pronounced dead shortly after the 1:30 p.m. accident, Los Angeles County fire and sheriff’s officials said. Lt. Jeff Springs said authorities had not determined whether the man died of head injuries suffered in the accident or whether he drowned. Authorities asked that the man’s name not be announced pending notification of relatives.
Springs said the victim’s boat became airborne and flipped over during a sanctioned race sponsored by the Southern California Speedboat Club. It took lifeguards about three minutes to free him from the wreckage.
