NATION : Knife-Wielder Takes School Bus
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man armed with a knife hijacked a school bus today after forcing the driver off but was caught after ramming a car, police said. There were no reports of injuries.
The hijacker boarded the bus and tried to force its woman driver to drive off with the students aboard.
“At one point he was holding a knife to her throat,†said Sharon Ward, assistant principal at Berryhill Elementary School. “One of the students told me he threw (the driver) off the bus and tried to drive it.â€
The bus rammed a car as the hijacker attempted to back it away. Police nabbed the man when he tried to flee the scene.
