Striped-Bass Fishing to Be Banned Nov. 1

WASHINGTON — Fishing for Atlantic striped bass will be prohibited in most federal waters starting Nov. 1, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced.
Harvest and possession of striped bass will be banned in federal waters extending from 3 miles to 200 miles off shore. The only exception is an area of Block Island Sound, Rhode Island, where fishermen will be permitted to transport to the mainland bass taken legally in state waters at Block Island.
The regulations are intended to protect the striped bass, which is slowly recovering from a severe decline in the 1970s and early 1980s, officials said.
