HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Carpinteria Holds Off Santa Clara
A 252-yard, three-touchdown rushing effort by Santa Clara’s Lloyd Mix went for naught as Carpinteria eked out a 23-21 nonleague win on a 25-yard field goal by Manuel Nunez with 50 seconds left at Channel Islands High.
Mix gained 117 yards and scored twice in the first 2 minutes 15 seconds as Santa Clara took a 14-6 lead with 9:45 left in the first quarter. Mix scored on runs of 47 and 62 yards, and Carpinteria’s Tim Jimenez returned a kickoff 83 yards.
Carpinteria took the lead with 3:08 left in the first half on a one-yard run by Pat McIntyre. Santa Clara took the lead back with 1:33 to play in the third quarter on an 89-yard run by Mix.
Sean Lohsey of Carpinteria rushed for a team-high 138 yards in 19 carries.
