Three Honored by Football Foundation

The San Fernando Valley chapter of the National Football Foundation has announced that three players have been selected by their high schools as athletes of the week.
Tailback-defensive back Darnell Hendricks of Taft, quarterback Sean Fitzgerald of Agoura and tight end-linebacker Dave Monheim of Westlake were selected by coaches at their respective schools.
The foundation plans to honor a player from each school in the Valley area by the end of the season, publicist Dick Whitney said. Each player selected will be honored at a postseason banquet and will receive a foundation T-shirt.
Cal Lutheran will sponsor a three-on-three basketball tournament Oct. 28.
The youth division for fifth- and sixth-graders will begin play at 10 a.m., the junior high division for seventh- and eighth-graders at 11 a.m., the high school division at noon and the open division at 1 a.m.
Each team has a three-game guarantee, and the games are officiated.

The 11th Sparky Anderson Cal Lutheran Golf Classic will be held Nov. 5 at Sunset Hills Country Club in Thousand Oaks. The tournament, which will be played in a Texas scramble format, will begin with a shotgun start at noon.

The Agoura High girls’ cross-country team is ranked second in the nation in the lastest issue of The Harrier magazine.
The Chargers, runners-up in the state Division I cross-country championships from 1987-89, are ranked behind Mountain View High (Utah), last year’s top-ranked team.
In the boys’ rankings, Agoura is 15th and Hart is 25th.
