There Are Still Involved Young People
As a young person very interested and involved in public affairs, I would like to thank you for publishing this article regarding Gerhard Peters (Joseph Bell, Sept. 14). I have known Gerhard for over four years and have found him to be very dedicated and determined. At a time in which many teen-agers are scornful of politics, it is nice to let the public know that there are a few young people who still believe in, and want to take part in government.
It is too bad that politics in school is no longer a steppingstone toward a career in public service, but rather: a popularity contest. Gerhard gained leadership and citizenship skills from 4-H, not school. As Gerhard was quoted: “The student government didn’t have much to say about what went on (at Dana Hills High School).”
Knowing Gerhard, I appreciate your accurate portrayal of him.
