LAUREL, Md. — A second fire at Freestate Raceway has been classified as arson, the state fire marshal said today.
Deputy State Fire Marshal Bob Thomas said the fire early this morning caused $30,000 in damage and destroyed a two-story wood building that was used as a lounge for jockeys and employees.
An arson fire at the harness track Saturday afternoon heavily damaged the grandstand building, Thomas said.
Authorities were seeking two youngsters who were seen running from the track after the first fire.
The race track has been closed for about a year.
The track was closed after it was sold to the Washington-based Cafritz Group, a real estate and development firm. Racing dates at the track had been leased to Mark Vogel, who is charged in Virginia with cocaine possession.
