Sophomore tailback Tico Duckett rushed for a career-high 229 yards and scored a touchdown as No. 22 Michigan State beat Rutgers, 34-10, in a nonconference game Saturday night at East Rutherford, N.J.

Duckett, whose previous high was 175 yards, carried 33 times and was the workhorse as Michigan State, which came within a point of upsetting top-ranked Notre Dame last week, scored on all four of its second-half possessions to break a 10-10 halftime tie.

John Langeloh added field goals of 26 and 21 yards as Michigan State (1-1-1) won its 500th game. Langeloh’s 10 points--he kicked four extra points--gave him 260 for his career, moving him one point behind Morten Andersen for the school record.
