Crash Kills Marine, Hurts Rider
SAN CLEMENTE — A 22-year-old Camp Pendleton Marine was killed and his female passenger seriously injured early Saturday when their motorcycle crashed on the freeway, authorities said.
The Marine, whose name was not released pending notification of relatives, was driving the motorcycle south on Interstate 5 near the El Camino Real off-ramp when the accident occurred shortly before 2 a.m., said a San Clemente Fire Department spokesman.
The passenger, whose name was not released by the California Highway Patrol, was listed in serious condition at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center late Saturday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Further details of the crash were not available from the CHP, Camp Pendleton or San Clemente fire officials.
