THE SIDELINES : Texas Rangers’ Chief Resigns

ARLINGTON, Tex. — President Mike Stone of the Texas Rangers resigned today, effective Nov. 30, so the club can pursue “new marketing directions.â€
“Most of what I wanted to accomplish with the Rangers’ organization has been achieved,†Stone said. “I am extremely proud of the progress the franchise has made toward the realization of many shared dreams.â€
Stone did not say why he is leaving, but general partner George W. Bush said Stone’s resignation will “enable the club to focus on new marketing directions.†He did not elaborate.
