Ocean View Fakes Run and Wins
HUNTINGTON BEACH — Halfback Albert Fanoga faked a run and pulled up for a cross-field extra-point pass with 21 seconds left to play to give Ocean View High School a come-from-behind 22-21 victory over El Modena in a nonleague football game Friday at Huntington Beach High School.
Karliner set up Fanoga’s heroics on a three-yard run with 27 seconds remaining in the game.
El Modena quarterback Jose Prado scored two touchdowns, passed for a third and kicked all three extra points. Prado completed seven of 11 passes for 146 yards and three interceptions. He carried the ball 10 times for 47 yards.
Prado’s one-yard run and extra-point kick gave El Modena (1-2) a 7-0 lead after one quarter. His 35-yard scoring pass to Darryll Holguin and kick gave El Modena a 14-0 lead.
Ocean View (2-1) scored with 42 seconds left in the half on Joe Fraser’s one-yard run and Ron Lightner’s kick to trail, 14-7, at the half.
Prado’s one-yard run with 4:42 left in the third quarter gave El Modena a 21-7 lead. But in the third quarter, Randy Karliner completed a five-yard touchdown pass to Fanoga, trimming the deficit to 21-14 to set up Ocean View’s last-minute victory.
