San Diego Rushes Past Occidental

SAN DIEGO — Charles Taumoepeau gained 146 yards in 25 carries to lead the University of San Diego past Occidental, 20-12, before 4,000 in USD’s Torero Stadium. It was the first Torero victory over Occidental since 1981.
Freshman running back Brian Madlangbayan led the Tigers with 157 yards in 28 carries, including 99 yards in nine first-quarter carries.
Junior quarterback John Selle gave Occidental a 6-0 lead in the first quarter when he scored on a four-yard run around left end after a nice fake up the middle by Madlangbayan.
Occidental’s second touchdown came with 7 minutes 7 seconds left in the second quarter and gave the Tigers a 12-3 lead. Sophomore fullback Michael Winslow dived over from the one, capping a 10-play, 65-yard drive.
All-American kicker Dave Bergmann kicked a 41-yard field goal to start the second half, giving USD a 13-12 lead.
