WALK INTO HISTORY: A nine-mile historic walk from San Gabriel to El Pueblo Historic Park in downtown Los Angeles begins at 6 a.m. on Labor Day. Participants in the three-hour walk, sponsored by Los Pobladores, a group of descendants of Los Angeles’ settlers, will meet at the San Gabriel Mission, 537 W. Mission Road, San Gabriel.
BACK TO SCHOOL: Students return to class this week at 41 of Los Angeles County’s school districts.
DUMP: The Environmental Protection Agency will report to residents on efforts to clean up the Operating Industries Inc. landfill, once considered one of the worst toxic hazards in the nation. The meeting is at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Schurr High School in Montebello. The 190-acre landfill between Montebello and Monterey Park was closed in 1984.
ALL’S FAIR: The Los Angeles County Fair opens Friday in Pomona.
