Arson Suspected in 3 Small Brush Fires
Firefighters extinguished three small brush fires early Thursday, all believed to have been intentionally ignited in the mountains east of Santa Clarita.
The fires, which were set between midnight and 4 a.m., burned only small areas of brush, officials said.
The first was reported about 1 a.m. at Sand Canyon Road near the Antelope Valley Freeway and burned less than an acre. Almost two hours later, a fire about 15 miles away burned one-fourth of an acre near Bouquet Canyon and Vasquez Canyon roads in the Agua Dulce area, Los Angeles County Fire Chief Mike Balzano said.
And a fire at 3:57 a.m. burned a small plot about four miles south of the second fire, Balzano said.
The cause of the fires had not yet been determined, and the case was referred to theSheriff’s Department arson unit for investigation, he said.
