WASHINGTON — President Bush said Monday that TV Marti, the Voice of America television station aimed at Cuban viewers, has passed a five-month test and will become a permanent operation.
That means Cubans who get up early enough to watch the predawn programming and whose television reception escapes Cuban jamming efforts will be able to watch the news, movies and shows such as “Cheers.”
Bush’s announcement releases $16 million that had been withheld pending a presidential determination that the operation was both legal and technically feasible.
