Controversy Over Federal Funds for Artists
- Share via
I continually read about the indignant taxpayer complaining about his/her tax “dollars” being wasted on “obscene” art.
To get a grasp of the global picture look at these figures on per capita government spending on the arts by various nations in 1989:
* $38.80 in West Germany; $24.91 in Sweden; $19.99 in Norway; $16.51 in the Netherlands; $15.48 in Austria; $12.37 in France; $11.80 in Denmark; $7.74 in the United Kingdom, and 64 cents in the United States.
