The body of a San Diego man was found Monday in Sweetwater River, in a pond west of the intersection of Sweetwater and Bonita roads, a Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman said.
The man was identified as Gregory Aguinaga, Sheriff’s Lt. Linda Fulton said.
Aguinaga, 22, had not been seen since Saturday, when he went fishing and swimming with two friends and apparently jumped in the river to catch a duck, San Diego Police Sgt. Fred England said.
Aquinaga’s friends waited two hours for his return, then left the river and never reported the incident, England said.
An autopsy is scheduled today.
