DALLAS — A resident of a group home for mental patients was charged with arson today in an early-morning fire that gutted the facility, killing four women and injuring three others, authorities said.
Margaret Ann Wright, 46, a current resident of the home for nine women, was charged with arson but additional charges in the deaths of the four women may be filed, said Dallas Fire Department spokeswoman Carolyn Garcia.
“She was an occupant of the building,” Garcia said. “Charges have been filed. She told investigators she started the fire downstairs.”
The two-alarm fire began shortly before 4 a.m. and gutted the two-story house, which is run by the Dallas County Mental Health-Mental Retardation Agency.
