Taxi Driver, Legally Blind for 2 Years, Finally Forced to Give Up His Business

PORT CLINTON, Ohio — An elderly, legally blind taxi driver was forced to turn off his ignition for good when a municipal court judge took away his license plates and registration.
Taxi owner Dallas Pollack, 75, was declared legally blind two years ago when he failed an eye exam.
But Pollack said last week that he would occasionally drive the cab when he couldn’t find anyone else to go behind the wheel.
“I couldn’t get anyone to work all night,” Pollack said. “I thought the city was overlooking it for what I was doing for the city.”
Until his license was revoked a week ago, Pollack ran the only taxi service in town, earning an average of $50 a week. City officials are searching for someone to take over the business.
