Suspect Arrested After Officer Fires 2 Shots
A narcotics suspect who allegedly attempted to run over an undercover police officer surrendered Friday after the Bell Gardens officer opened fire, authorities said.
The suspect, Jesus Soto, 30, of Huntington Park, allegedly tried to run down the officer with his car on the Manchester Boulevard on-ramp to the southbound Harbor Freeway in Los Angeles about 4:30 p.m., Bell Gardens Police Sgt. Fred Freeman said.
The unidentified officer fired two rounds, but both shots missed Soto and struck his car, Freeman said.
Soto surrendered and was taken to Men’s Central Jail, where he was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon against a peace officer, Freeman said. Narcotics-related charges against Soto were pending.
The incident caused the closure of the southbound on-ramp for three hours.
