Batbusters Win Twice in National Softball
Fountain Valley’s Batbusters won two games Thursday to advance to the third round of the American Softball Assn. national tournament in Lodi.
The Batbusters defeated Indian Magic, 8-0, in the first round. Jennifer Brundage, who will be a senior at Irvine High School, pitched a two-hitter and Christa Yorke, a Marina graduate who will attend Fresno State, was three for three, scored a run and had two runs batted in.
In the second round, the Batbusters defeated the Southern California Raiders, 5-3. Kim Maher hit a two-run home run in the third inning and Brundage had a two-run double in the first to lead the Batbusters.
Kennedy senior Cheryl Longeway was the winning pitcher in 2 2/3 innings of relief. Starter Rae Rice, a Fountain Valley senior, allowed three runs and six hits in 4 1/3 innings.
The 60-team tournament is for girls 18 and younger.
