AMMAN, Jordan — Thousands of demonstrators in two Jordanian cities today burned American, British and Israeli flags, pledging support for Iraq and denouncing the deployment of U.S. troops to Saudi Arabia.
The rallies in Amman and the southern town of Maan were among the latest outbursts of anti-American sentiment in the Arab world. The reaction has ranged from rallies to calls for a holy war against the United States.
The leader of Jordan’s powerful Muslim Brotherhood, Mohammed Abdul Rahman Khalifa, told the crowd at Jordan University Mosque in Amman that “the first enemy of the Muslim Brotherhood that must be eliminated is America, the Satan.”
Without mentioning names, he also said that Arab leaders who “are the tails of America” will also “be eliminated.”
