Oceanside
The food and drink vendor shot Wednesday morning at the Aliso Creek rest stop on Interstate 5 north of Oceanside was listed in fair condition Thursday at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.
Lee Harrell, 55, is expected to be out of the hospital in about a week, said his daughter, Alice Lee Harrell, 14, who saw him Thursday afternoon.
She said her father, who was struck by five bullets and underwent 3 1/2 hours of surgery, suffered “little damage.â€
“His liver is just a little big,†she said.
Harrell said her father offered no explanation for the shooting. “He said the guy came up to him and asked if he had any motor oil and he said, no,†she said.
Dilene Pulsipher, a Scripps La Jolla spokeswoman, said Harrell had vital signs within normal limits but was still in intensive care.
Eric Hazelgrove was booked into County Jail in Vista Wednesday in connection with the shooting.
