Poway
A Rancho Bernardo man arrested in Poway Tuesday after a two-hour standoff with police pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges of manufacturing methamphetamine.
Kelly C. Schwartz, 25, made his plea before Municipal Judge Gale E. Kaneshiro, who set bail at $250,000.
Police arrested Schwartz on two felony warrants after he ran from a house on Powers Road. The SWAT team had been called to apprehend Schwartz, who police feared was armed, but he ran and was caught in a neighbor’s yard.
Investigators reported that a small amount of drugs and more than 50 knives were recovered at the scene.
Schwartz will have his bail reviewed at an Aug. 14 hearing, and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 20.
