Perganol Parents Overindulge
I wonder if anti-abortion people are in favor of multiple births, which are the intended and direct result of drug-taking (“Frustaci Fallout,†July 24). I can’t help but feel disgusted by the self-centered absorption of the couples who indulge in taking a drug such as Perganol because they cannot conceive. Is adoption of unaborted, unwanted babies so unthinkable?
Being the mother of two planned children, and loving them with all my heart, I truly believe that having children is an argument for adopting them. Children are not miniature versions of you, your mate or your Aunt Ethel. They are always different than one expects, both in looks and personality. They are little strangers, and “natural†or “adopted,†children need love and care and wise upbringing, day in and day out.
If, as Anthony Beilenson states (Op Ed, July 23) our world will have another 3 billion people in 35 years--one generation--then how can anybody who thinks even occasionally even consider the selfishness of having multiple births on purpose?
