The U.S. basketball team beat Greece, 103-95, in overtime, in the opening game of the qualifying round of the World Championships at Buenos Aires.
The United States, the defending champion, led, 17-6, after five minutes. Greece, however, outscored the United States, 50-28, in the next 15 minutes for a 56-45 halftime lead.
Today, the United States plays South Korea, which lost to Spain, 130-101.
In another Pool C game, Alexander Volkov had 24 points to lead the Soviet Union to a 97-77 victory over Argentina.
In Pool A, Yugoslavia beat Venezuela, 92-84, as Drazen Petrovic had 20 points and Vlade Divac 16.
