TUSTIN : Residents Cheered for Clean-Up Effort

City Council members on Monday applauded the efforts of North A Street residents and others who helped clean up the yard of an elderly man and his mother.

At the suggestion of Councilwoman Leslie Anne Pontious, the council will issue proclamations to all the individuals and businesses who pitched in to help.

The city was on the verge of declaring Charlie Shaw’s property a public nuisance in June after unsuccessful attempts by city officials to get the self-proclaimed pack rat to clean up the overgrown, cluttered site.

Neighbors stepped in and offered their help, filling several large dumpsters with items Shaw had collected on his bicycle over the years.

Other items, from parachutes to wedding dresses, were sold at a two-day garage sale last month, which raised money to cover renting the dumpsters.
