Hotelier House-Hunting: Kaneyoshi Kawamoto, the Sheraton Anaheim Hotel’s new owner, is house-hunting. He said in a recent interview that he’s looking for a home near the hotel that he purchased in June for nearly $40 million.
The British-educated Japanese businessman, who plans to split his time between Japan and Orange County, said a major renovation of the hotel’s castle-like structure will start next month. The estimated $15-million to $20-million face-lift includes addition of a health club and a redesign of the hotel’s three courtyards to allow outdoor banquets.
Kawamoto, who has expressed interest in buying other Orange County hotels, said he doesn’t plan additional purchases until the renovation is complete in 1991.
So far, Kawamoto’s Pacific Islandia company has received about 30 unsolicited offers from real estate brokers and hotel owners who are trying to sell their properties, about 10 of those in Orange County.
