Sultan’s Visit Scheduled: Hamengkubuwono X, the sultan of Jogjakarta, will make a rare U.S. appearance at Los Angeles Festival’s Aug. 31 opening night performance by the 67-member Court Performers from the Jogjakarta Palace of Java, said officials for the nationwide Festival of Indonesia, which is a co-presenter of the program. Sultan Hamengkubuwono X’s father, Hamengkubuwono IX, agreed shortly before his 1988 death to send his company for the festival in what will be its first U.S. appearence. The company’s 10 performances at the Los Angeles State and County Arboretum are being billed as the centerpiece of the festival.
