A Close Shave Without Nicks?
Just in time for the beach season, there is a new spray-on shaving solution that promises to leave skin not just smooth, but free of rashes and nicks as well. Hydroglide, which sells for about $7 per can at several local beauty supply stores, was developed by Houston dermatologist Dr. Milton D. Moore. Its active ingredient is propylene glycol, said a company spokesman.
Is it worth the price? “Propylene glycol is nothing magical,†said Dr. Rhonda Rand, a Beverly Hills dermatologist. “It is one of the most common solvents used in cosmetics, moisturizers and medications. It can help dry skin. But a good shaving cream followed by a moisturizer could probably do the job just as well.â€
Whatever shaving solution consumers choose, Rand said, a smooth shaving technique alone can go a long way toward minimizing rashes and nicks. “Shave during or after your shower,†said Rand. “The hairs are softer.â€
