U.S. Wins 3 Golds in Swimming
The United States won each of the three gold medals contested at the American Cup IV synchronized swimming competition Sunday at Heritage Park in Irvine.
Jill Savery of Walnut Creek, Calif., won the solo competition with 177.5100 points, defeating Fumiko Okuno of Japan (174.5100) and Tan Min of China (169.1700).
In the duet competition, Savery and Lori McCoy, also of Walnut Creek, won with 177.4550 points, followed by Okuno and Miya Tachibana (173.7300) and Min and Tao Hong (167.8850).
In the team competition, the United States, which was in third place after Saturday’s preliminaries, won with 168.4937 points, defeating Canada (167.5075) and China (167.4150).
Other members of the U.S. team are Khadija Kutcher of Tacoma, Wash.; Cari Kreitzer and Stephanie Sogawa of Santa Clara; Laurie McClelland of San Diego; Jenni Ohanesian of Walnut Creek; Janet Wiecking and Jenny Mayer of Richmond, Va., and Emily Porter of Phoenix.
The competition is considered a prelude to the world championships to be held in January in Perth, Australia.
