Arkansas Is Expected to Join SEC
The Arkansas Razorbacks are poised to jump from the Southwest Conference to the Southeastern Conference.
Arkansas is expected to join the SEC on Wednesday, a move that would end the university’s 76-year alliance with the SWC.
“It’s not good news,†SWC Commissioner Fred Jacoby said. “Arkansas has been a valued member of the conference, and we’re sorry they are taking that position.â€
Arkansas President B. Alan Sugg said the school’s board plans to meet Wednesday in Fayetteville, Ark., to discuss the SEC proposal. Sugg said both he and Dan Ferritor, Fayetteville campus chancellor, will recommend the Razorbacks leave the SWC to become the SEC’s 11th team.
Sugg said: “(Ferritor) feels the overall competition level will be stronger, that there will be a greater fan interest in the program if we participate in the Southeastern Conference, and . . . there’s a better chance for television revenue to remain the same if not be enhanced with the SEC.â€
