Although the political battle over scheduling Tustin City Council elections is settled, the meter continues running on the tangled legal fight, which has so far racked up more than $250,000 in fees. . . . John Kelly--a moving party in the struggle--was not reelected to the council, but the last of three suits is set for trial Oct. 22 and it is unclear who will pay the bills. “Wow, that’s a lot of dough,” says Kelly. Adds City Atty. James Rourke: “I think it’s likely the city will not pay all of that.” Kelly and a council ally, Rourke predicts, are “probably going to pay their own lawyers.” The suit seeks to overturn an ordinance that changed municipal elections from November to April.
