Judge Upholds Trial of Northwest Pilots

MINNEAPOLIS — A federal judge refused to dismiss charges Tuesday against three former Northwest Airlines pilots accused of flying while drunk.
Judge James Rosenbaum also denied defense motions to suppress physical evidence and statements, and to grant the defendants separate trials.
Jury selection was scheduled this morning in the U.S. District Court trial of the former pilots, accused of being drunk while flying a commercial airliner from Fargo, N.D., to Minneapolis on March 8. The Boeing 727, with 91 passengers aboard, landed safely at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The three pilots were arrested by an FAA official when the plane landed.
