Countywide : Homeless Program Funding Sought

Ventura County’s Homeless Ombudsman Program is expected to help provide shelter to about 900 people in the coming year, county officials said.
The Public Social Services Agency reported the figure in asking the Board of Supervisors to approve continued funding of part of the program.
The board will vote today on a request for $18,421 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to pay the salary of an aide to Nancy Nazario, the ombudsman.
The aide is already assisting Nazario as a caseworker, said Marty Shaw-Halloway, county manager of special projects and community development.
Shaw-Halloway said the ombudsman program, which began in 1988, helps low- and moderate-income individuals and families find temporary and permanent housing.
