IRVINE : Rites Scheduled for Boy Who Fell in Spa
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at South Coast Community Church for a 22-month-old boy who died after falling into a spa at his family’s home in the Spyglass Hill area of Newport Beach.
The child, Jordan Jennings, became the sixth youngster this year to die in Orange County from drowning-related causes. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. R. S. Jennings. Dr. Jennings is a physician who maintains an office in Huntington Beach.
Police said the child fell into the water Saturday afternoon after he slipped out of the house unnoticed through a side door. His baby-sitter discovered him in the back-yard spa about five minutes later.
The sitter gave the boy cardiopulmonary resuscitation and called 911, Sgt. Andy Gonis said.
The boy was taken to Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach and transferred to Children’s Hospital of Orange County in Orange, where he died Sunday. Cause of death was attributed to complications from near drowning.
Gonis said that the child’s death was very similar to a drowning that occurred in the same neighborhood in April. That child, 1-year-old Kazarina Hariluk, also died after tumbling into the family’s outdoor spa.
The funeral services today will be conducted by Pastor Tim Timmons of South Coast Community Church, 5120 Bonita Canyon Drive, Irvine. Burial will immediately follow at Pacific View Cemetery in Newport Beach.
In addition to his parents, the child is survived by two brothers, Eric and Justin, and three sisters, Cynda, Darcy and Jessica.
Timmons said that the family has requested that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Coast Youth Foundation, in care of South Coast Community Church.
